Vanguard to Get Live-Action Drama, Starring DAIGO

It was announced last night at Bushiroad's press conference that DAIGO☆STARDUST will be starring in a new live-action TV drama, based on the Cardfight!! Vanguard trading card game. While little is known of the show at this time, DAIGO has in the past cosplayed as Sendou Aichi, protagonist of the anime and manga series. Vanguard has previously had one live-action production, but this was a children's TV show hosted by Doctor O, made to introduce kids to game tactics.

DAIGO has previously starred in every Japanese commercial for the TCG, wearing his own custom fight gloves. His band was also responsible for a musical piece, "Climber x Climber" which was used in promoting the game. Of the known cast, it is public knowledge that the voice of Kourin, Mimori Suzuko, regularly cosplays as her own character.

The drama will air on May 3rd from 8:30-10:00 AM on TV Tokyo. DAIGO will be joined by Sōma Shinta, Uchiyama Haruki, Mimori Suzuko, Nagasawa Nao, Namioka Kazuki, and Kanayama Kazuhiko. The director is to be Takahashi Motoki.

Asia Circuit Press Conference, New Commercial

Last night Bushiroad's press conference on the second season of Cardfight!! Vanguard was hosted live on the Japanese video website, Nico Nico Dōga. Here's a recap of what was unveiled;

  • The mystery boy from Ren's flashback in ride 57 is a new character, Tatsunagi Takuto (立凪タクト)
  • Takuto is the top of the Tatsunagi financial group, the host of the Asia Circuit.
  • Episode 1 will deal with Aichi and Takuto's first meeting.
  • The first country in the Asia Circuit is Singapore.
  • Katsuragi Kamui, Tokura Misaki, Nitta Shin and Miwa Taishi are all confirmed to be returning in new outfits. Shin will accompany Team Q4 overseas to the Asia Circuit while Miwa and Izaki run Card Capital in his place. Morikawa and Emi will stay behind with the rest of the crew at Card Capital.
  • Ren will be joining the protagonists. Like Aichi, he will use the Gold Paladin clan, however he will use an alternate playstyle, different from Aichi's. Extra Booster 03 will mainly be centered on his playstyle.
  • Ito Akira has created a new artwork for Asia Circuit, which may be released as an official card sleeve.

And now, some information on the upcoming booster sets;
  • On 3/26 The May issue of Kero Kero Ace will be released with a 50-card supplement.
  • On 4/21 the new trial decks come out.
  • Booster Set 6 will be released on 4/28.
  • On 5/26 an EX Booster featuring supporting for Gold Paladin, Spike Brothers, Megacolony, Royal Paladin, Shadow Paladin and Kagerou will be released.
  • On 7/7 Booster 7 will be released, featuring support for Great Nature, Oracle Think Tank and a new clan, Angel Feather. Like the Royal Paladin, Oracle Think Tank, Gold Paladin and Shadow Paladin clans before them, Angel Feather will be a United Sanctuary-based clan. Angel Feather will manipulate the damage zone in ways other than counterblast.
  • A new Gold Paladin promo card has been unveiled, which is either Kungal or Kurngal.
 Bushiroad also put out a new commercial, once more featuring DAIGO of BREAKERZ;

The Biggest Dozer: Nova Grappler (BT01)

Options (Boosting): Queen of Heart, Tough Boy, Screamin And Dancin Announcer, Shout, Claydoll Mechanic
Options (Attacking): Genocide Jack, King of Sword, Hungry Dumpty, Cup Bowler
Nova Grappler is a very forward clan; the strongest cards tend to find the top spot and stick there. Genocide Jack is to this day their most reliable attacker, as even for a cost of counterblast 1, its autoskill will give it an automatic +5000 power while being boosted by a Nova Grappler, which is close to an immediate 20000-power vanguard. Since Jack can get by with as little as 5000 power supporting him in the vanguard circle, this gives the Grapplers a strong midgame and consequently a vastly greater amount of flexibility in which grade 1s they wish to include in a deck.

And speaking of those grade 1s, Queen of Heart is not a poor choice. When combined with King of Sword--the Grapplers' equivalent to Gallatin and Nehalem--she turns the King into a 20000-power rearguard of his own. Should this match fail the fighter, the Queen still finds utility by being a booster for Jack.

As discussed in a previous article, just 8 grade 2s are needed to ride successfully each turn; the King himself is vastly superior to Gallatin for having the Queen to support him, so it would not be wrong to run x4 Genocide Jack and x4 King of Sword.

Tough Boy is for now something of an orphaned unit. His 8000 power is too excessive to contribute effectively, since his slot in the deck is better offered to 7000- or 6000-power units with skills. There is one exception found later on with Cup Bowler, which depending on the timing of the attack may have around 12000 power before boosting, and cards introduced further on in the Nova Grappler line do establish him as a consistent force for many decks.

Shout's card change skill and Claydoll Mechanic's ability to unflip damage when called fills in the gap that Tough Boy left perfectly. Both of them can bring Jack up to speed, but at the same time serve alternative purposes by allowing one to quickly search the deck for the cards in a combo, or otherwise reuse expensive skills.

Specifically, Mechanic helps make use of Jack's counterblast, and it also works as an aid in mixed decks which splash in rearguards like Bors. Since these cards don't rely on vanguards of a specific clan, and their only associated cost is counterblast, the Mechanic heightens the deck's efficiency much as a real-world mechanic would tune a vehicle.

Hungry Dumpty is also a mechanic, but at grade 2 rather than grade 1. This gives him the benefit of intercept, but introduces its own set of problems; any weighted presence from Dumpty in a deck would displace either Jack or King of Sword. At most, I would recommend running just 2 of him.

Cup Bowler meanwhile, is such a great offensive rearguard that it was later souped up in grade 3 form in BT06. When one of your rearguards is rested, Bowler gains +1000 power; this includes attacking and boosting. Even without Tough Boy, attacking with Bowler as the third column in a lineup of six will easily let even a 4000-power rearguard push him past the 20000 absolute borderline. This qualifies Cup Bowler as a very great unit, being highly flexible and not really caring what you put behind him. Since he's a promo card, I would recommend swapping out those two Dumpties for two Bowlers.

JAM Project Returning to do OP03, New Shadow Paladin Cards

JAM Project will be returning for Cardfight!! Vanguard Asia Circuit, the anime's second season. The new opening will be "LIMIT BREAK" and will be released on CD on April 25th, 2012. LIMIT BREAK will retail for 1200 yen.

OP06 is "Passion-ism" by Rin(Mami Suenaga), and will be released on May 9th, 2012, also for 1200 yen. First print runs will be packaged with a special promo card.

Chapter 16 of the manga has recently unveiled three new Shadow Paladin cards of unknown grade. It is uncertain if they will make the transition from manga to reality.

Blaster Rapier
Unknown Grade/Shadow Paladin - Unknown/9000 Power/Unknown Shield

Speculation: The power is well within the limits of a grade 2 unit, is too high for a grade 1, and it appears that this unit was called while Ren's vanguard was Blaster Dark. As such, Rapier is probably grade 2.
Blaster Axe
Unknown Grade/Shadow Paladin - Unknown/10000 Power/Unknown Shield

Speculation:  Going by the power, this could be a grade 2 or 3. Since Blaster Rapier can be seen to the side, and Dark is behind him, this appears to be another grade 2.

The Dark Dictator
Unknown Grade/Shadow Paladin - Unknown/Unknown Power/Unknown Shield

Speculation: Appears to be based on either Alfred Early or The King of Knights, Alfred. Definitely a grade 3. If it's based on Early, it probably superior calls Blaster Dark(or soulblasts/retires him for power, the Shadow Paladin way of doing things?) and if it's based on the King of Knights, all bets are off as to his skills.

OP01 "Vanguard"/ED03 "DREAM SHOOTER" Official Dubs; March 6th Press Conference

JAM Project's "Vanguard," the first opening for Cardfight!! Vanguard's first season, now has an official English dub performed by its original cast. Sea☆A's DREAM SHOOTER, the show's third ending theme, has been dubbed accordingly. There is no word on the dubbing of the first or second ED.

The May 2012 issue of KeroKero Ace will include two half-decks, one Gold Paladin and one Narukami. Less immediately, the April 2012 issue of the same magazine is set to include a partial profile of Aichi, via a poster included with the magazine. Previews of the poster have already spoilered a few key points ahead of the issue's print;
