Week 2 shop tournament tops for Standard format (06/02/18-06/08/18)

  • Oracle Think Tank is continuing to grow in dominance, rising from 29.82% → 42.22%.
  • Royal Paladin has likewise risen, 19.30% → 22.22%.
  • Nova Grappler tops dropped heavily compared to last week, from 13 wins to 4.
  • We have participation numbers for 21 of these tournaments, the high being 27 and the low 5. There were a few 2-person tournaments that were not included in this and last week's breakdown, as it's hard to call a 2-person competition a "tournament."
  • This is out of 45 reported results, 12 fewer than last week. The smaller sample size is partially responsible for Oracle Think Tank skewing higher.
  • The colors for this week's chart have been adjusted to match 2critical's week 1 chart. (Which you should check out; they were able to find 82 results rather than 57.)
For the previous week's chart (05/25/18~06/01/18) see here.

Full cumulative results will be posted at the end of the month.

Royal Paladin
Total: 10
Overview: King of Knights is almost always a 4-of, Soul Saver Dragon averages a 3-of, and Alfred Early is most commonly at 1~2. Gigantech Charger was completely unused this week. There continues to be no consensus on what to do with the third grade 2 slot; Blaster Blade and Akane continue to be staples, while Gallatin and the Trial Deck print of Jauron are about tied for usage. Only one fighter played Funnergal, and Mithril decks are in the minority. This week also brought our first top to not run Marron, see KMD Advantage below. Allen, Marron, and Pongal, remain the staple grade 1s, with the fourth slot divided between Wingal, Lion Mane, or nothing at all.

Week 2 decks ran an average 17.1 grade 0s, 13 grade 1s, 10.2 grade 2s, and 8.1 grade 3s. The cumulative average grade ratios for Royal Paladin are 17.05 grade 0s, 13.35 grade 1s, 10.96 grade 2s, and 8 grade 3s. All Royal Paladin decks run 4 Heal 4 Draw 8 Crit.

Kagerо̄
Total: 12
Overview: All Kagerо̄ decks run 4 Dragonic Overlord 4 Dragonic Waterfall, with Cruel Dragon usage dropping to just one tech in a single deck this week. Berserk Dragon and Nehalem are now permanent fixtures of the deck, with fighters split on the usage of Dragon Armored Knight and Spillover Dragon--some literally running 2 of each. Views are likewise divided on whether to run the Trial Deck or Start Deck print of DAK.

Week 2 Kagerо̄ decks ran an average 13.25 Grade 1s, 11.6 Grade 2s, and 8.08 grade 3s. The cumulative average grade ratios for Kagerо̄ are 13.34 grade 1s, 11.46 grade 2s, and 8.17 grade 3s. The average trigger lineup for Kagerо̄ this week is 4 Heal 5.33 Draw 6.66 Crit; the cumulative average trigger lineup for Kagerо̄ as a whole is 4 Heal 4.82 Draw 7.18 Crit.

Oracle Think Tank
Total: 19
Overview: The go-to lineup for Oracle Think Tank remains 4 Imperial Daughter 4 CEO Amaterasu 2 Victorious Deer, with 4-3-2 and 4-4-1 builds coexisting with it. (No Oracle deck this week has topped without running Victorious.) Oracles have what is undeniably the most flexible grade 2 lineup of any clan in Standard, and this week we see decks running Silent Tom, Promise Daughter, Sotoorihime, MeMe, Saft, and even Onmyoji of the Moonlit Night. Essentially every grade 2 in the clan save for Solid Turtle has been used by a top-placing fighter.

For the grade 1s, Circle Magus continues to be run at 4 in most decks. (See the Card Labo Koufu list for the exception.) Majority preference for the remaining slots goes in descending order to Farfalle Magus, Luck Bird, and Oracle Guardian Gemini. Some decks run Petal Fairy or Mizunohame in place of Gemini.

The average grade ratios for Oracle Think Tank this week are 17 grade 0s, 12.79 grade 1s, 10.74 grade 2s, and 9.47 grade 3s. The cumulative average grade ratios are 12.8 grade 1s, 10.81 grade 2s, and 9.41 grade 3s. The average trigger lineup for Oracle Think Tank this week is 4 Heal 4.11 Draw 7.89 Crit; the cumulative average trigger lineup for the clan is 4 Heal 4.17 Draw 7.82 Crit.

Nova Grappler
Total: 4
Overview: Being the least-represented clan out of V-BT01, it's hard to draw conclusions from so few tops. Perfect Raizer and Battledore Fighter are the overall preferred grade 3s this week, though surprisingly Miss Splendor did appear in another hybrid Hero-Raizer list. Hi-powered Raizer Custom continues to be the top grade 2 for the clan, with Iron Killer in #2, and Burstraizer and Boomerang Thrower competing for the last slot. Raizer Custom and Jetraizer are the commonalities between these decks, with Death Army Guy being substituted for Rocket Hammer Man in the mixed Hero deck.

The average grade ratios for Nova Grappler this week are 17 grade 0s, 11.5 grade 1s, 12.5 grade 2s, and 9 grade 3s; the average cumulative ratios are 11.29 grade 1s, 12.37 grade 2s, and 8.7 grade 3s. The average trigger ratio for this week is 4 Heal 5.25 Draw 6.75 Front 0 Critical, and the average cumulative trigger ratio is 3.85 Heal 5.47 Draw 6.34 Front 0.5 Critical.

Week 1 shop tournament tops for Standard format (05/25/18-06/01/18)

  • For the first time in six years, Oracle Think Tank is the most dominant deck of the format, with Kagerо̄ just beginning to close the gap in the last 48 hours. Kagerо̄ spent most of this week lagging two to three tops behind OTT on any given day.
  • Nova Grappler was originally topping less than any of the other three clans individually, but gradually pushed Royal Paladin into fourth towards the end of the week.
  • There is a surprising lack of consensus in how to build each deck. (See the decklists below.)
  • These numbers are based on just 57 reported results out of several hundred tournaments that took place this week; as the format progresses it will become possible to aggregate results across the entirety of the V-BT01 format, creating more representative data.
  • We have participation numbers for only 13 of these tournaments. Max is 26, min is 7.
  • The Oracle Think Tank top from Card Labo Nagoya appears to contain 51 cards. The top was still counted in the above breakdown, but not in the grade ratio average for OTT. If the result were ruled out, Oracles and Kagerо̄ would become tied and make up 28.57% of tops.

Royal Paladin
Total: 11
Overview: The majority of Royal Paladin decks run King of Knights with Soul Saver, with Alfred Early as a distant third choice, and a handful using Gigantech Charger. All Royal Paladin tops run Blaster Blade and High Dog Breeder Akane, but there is no agreement on what to use for the final grade 2 slot. The Trial Deck version of Sage of the Arts Jauron is the most common pick, with Conjurer of Mithril and Funnergal tied for second. Pongal, Marron, and Allen are in every deck that has topped this week, with fighters split on whether to run TD Wingal or Lion Mane Stallion.

The average grade ratio for Royal Paladin is 17 grade 0s, 13.27 grade 1s, 11.72 grade 2s, and 7.9 grade 3s. The average trigger lineup is 4 Heal 4 Draw 8 Critical.

Kagerо̄
Total: 16
Overview: All Kagerо̄ tops run Dragonic Overlord and Dragonic Waterfall in their grade 3s lineup. All decks run Berserk Dragon and the Trial Deck print of Nehalem, but like Royals there is a divide on one to do with their third grade 2 slot. 6 decks run the Trial Deck Dragon Armored Knight, 5 run Spillover Dragon, and one fighter decided to run 3 copies of Cruel Dragon instead of a third grade 2. Every deck runs Embodiment of Armor Bahr and almost all run Flame of Hope Aermo. The most popular grade 1 after them is Lizard Soldier Raopia followed by Dragonic Gaias.

The average grade ratio for Kagerо̄ is 17 grade 0s, 13.43 grade 1s, 11.31 grade 2s, and 8.25 grade 3s. The average trigger lineup is 4 Heal 4.31 Draw 7.69 Critical.

Oracle Think Tank
Total: 17
Overview: All decks run CEO Amaterasu and Imperial Daughter, and all but one ran Victorious Deer. Deer is most commonly run at 2; two decks ran 1 Deer, and one deck 3 copies. The only thing certain about the grade 2 lineup is that Promise Daughter is a staple card; three of these tops did not run Silent Tom at all, and several others ran him at just 2 or 3 copies. The next most popular choice for grade 2s lots is Sotoorihime, followed by Yellow Witch MeMe. The staple grade 1s are Circle Magus and Farfalle Magus, with preference then descending to Gemini, Luck Bird, and finally Mizunohame.

The average grade ratios for Oracle Think Tank are 17 grade 0s, 12.81 grade 1s, 10.88 grade 2s, and 9.31 grade 3s. The average trigger lineup is 4 Heal 4.25 Draw and 7.75 Critical.

  • This deck appears to be made up of 51 cards, which would make it illegal. It is not counted in the average grade ratios.

Nova Grappler
Total: 13
Overview: Nova Grappler is the deck with the least agreement on how to build it, down to grade 3 choices and trigger lineup. (This is the only clan which has topped while running 0 Heal Triggers.) The priority grade 3s in descending order are Perfect Raizer, Asura Kaiser, Battledore Fighter, and Maximum Raizer; about half of all Nova decks run four types of grade 3, with only a small fraction using two types, and the rest running three. On average you will see 3 Perfect Raizer, 2 Asura Kaiser, 2 Battledore, and 1 Maximum Raizer in any given Nova Grappler deck.

All Nova tops run 4 copies of Hi-powered Raizer Custom (and accordingly have to set Battleraizer as their First Vanguard, rather than Tap the Hyper) with Iron Killer as the second grade 2 staple. Burstraizer is the most-run grade 2 after Iron Killer, with Boomerang Thrower bringing up the rear. For the grade 1s, Raizer Custom is an automatic 4-of, and in descending order of popularity is followed by Jetraizer, Transraizer, and Death Army Guy.

There is a split between Nova fighters on whether or not to use Hero support--those that do run Cup Bowler as a second 14k attacker with Rocket Hammer Man as a 13k booster. (Hammer tends to replace Death Army in these decks.) Not running Heroes means being able to dedicate more space to Burstraizer and Jet Raizer. A small fraction of decks use Miss Splendor as one of their fourth kinds of grade 3.

The average grade ratio for Nova Grappler tops is 17 grade 0s, 11.08 grade 1s, 12.23 grade 2s, and 8.31 grade 3s. The average trigger lineup for Nova Grappler is 3.69 Heal 5.69 Draw 5.92 Front 1 Critical.
