This month is the long-awaited launch of Kotobukiya's Omniscience Regalia Minerva figure, first announced and put up for preorder in November 2014. Originally designed by Tony Taka, Minerva has been a popular subject for sleeves, playmats and other merchandise since her introduction in BT14:
Brilliant Strike. Kotobukiya's rendition of Minerva is a 1/8th scale figure, measuring 220 millimeters (8.7 inches approx.) at her highest point, is made of PVC plastic and comes prepainted by the production studio's in-house workers.
Cardfight!! Vanguard figures have been a favorite subject of hobbyists in the past, with amateur garage kit productions of Majesty Lord Blaster, Super Dimensional Robo Daiyusha, and Eradicator Dragonic Descendant all finding their way into annual figure festivals. Unlike Minerva though, these figures were only produced on a small scale to be auctioned to private collectors, and not as commercial products officially licensed out to a major production house. The Minerva figure retails for 13800 yen, approximately $112 at the current exchange rate. Figures will go out on the 27th.
The only other officially licensed figures on the market are Goodsmile Company's
Cardfight!! Vanguard Nendoroids of
Sendou Aichi and
Kai Toshiki, and their original
Nendoroid Petits. The Aichi Nendoroid in particular has become especially notorious among collectors, as it can easily go for more than $150 on the secondhand market. Kai's figure sells for less than half that price.
